POST wins the equivalent of the Philatelic ‘Oscar’ for its committed ‘Christmas 2023’ stamps

On 21 July 2024, the awards ceremony for the 54th edition of the highly prestigious ’Asiago International Philatelic Art Prize’ was held at the Asiago Town Hall in Italy. The jury awarded POST Philately, along with Ceska Posta, the prize for the best stamp of 2023 for its Christmas series dedicated to raising awareness of climate change.

This is the second time that POST stamps have won the ‘Oscar’ in philately, the nickname of the event in Asiago. In 2021, the stamps from the series dedicated to ‘Rural Tourism’ won in the ‘Tourism’ category.

Isabelle Faber, Directrice Ressources humaines, Relations publiques & RSE at POST Luxembourg, said: ‘This recognition reflects the efforts made by POST in developing new stamps, both in terms of the choice of themes and the collaboration with local artists in their design. After winning the award in 2021, this new distinction underlines our commitment to maintaining a very high level of quality for Luxembourg stamp issues.’

Unusual, thought-provoking Christmas stamps

Designed by the Luxembourg graffiti artist Alain Welter, the motifs for the 2023 Christmas series are surprising to say the least: a Boxemännchen that sweats and a snowman that melts. By clearly distancing himself from ‘traditional’ Christmas stamps with festive winter motifs, Alain Welter wanted to draw attention to the consequences of climate change.

Artist Alain Welter is honoured by this award: ‘I'm delighted that POST has supported my artistic idea of moving away from traditional Christmas stamps to focus on an issue that humanity must collectively tackle. I'm even more delighted that this idea has also been recognised at international level’.

With this series of stamps, POST has underlined its CSR strategy and its commitment to the battle against climate change. In all its activities, POST makes it a priority to promote appropriate awareness and individual and collective responsibility.
