POST Luxembourg and India Post have jointly issued a special stamp to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Luxembourg and India this year.
On Tuesday, March 14th, 2023, both countries released a commemorative stamp featuring two sculptures by the late Amar Nath Sehgal, an Indian artist and long-time Luxembourg resident who passed away in 2007. Sehgal set up his studio in Luxembourg in the late 1970s and lived and worked between the Grand Duchy and India until the early 2000s.
The chosen motifs for the stamp are “Friends,” a bronze sculpture depicting two close friends in conversation, and “Flute Player,” which represents the spirit of Krishna, the god of love and joy. The Luxembourg version of the stamp features French writing and was designed by local artist Anne Mélan, while India Post designed the Indian version with Hindi writing.
To commemorate the joint issuance of this special block, two concurrent events were held in Luxembourg and India on last tuesday. POST Luxembourg hosted the Luxembourg event at its headquarters, while the Embassy of Luxembourg in New Delhi organized the India event at the Amar Nath Sehgal Private Collection museum in New Delhi. The events were linked via a streaming platform.
Several POST Luxembourg representatives, as well as several representatives of Luxembourg’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and Indian organizations, and Raman Sehgal, son of Amar Nath Sehgal and Debasish Prusty, Deputy Chief of mission Embassy of the Republic of India, who received a souvenir frame with the commemorative block. . In India, speeches were given by the Luxembourg Ambassador to India, Peggy Frantzen and Ministers K. Lehki and MD Chauhan. The whole event was embellished by a musical interlude specially created by Pandit Shubhendra Rao for the occasion.
