In 2024, the Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialized organisation of the United Nations with headquarters in Berne, Switzerland, celebrates its 150th anniversary. On 9 October 1874, 22 countries came together to create the General Postal Union, later renamed the Universal Postal Union. Today, it brings together the postal networks of 192 member countries. The organisation acts as a leading forum for promoting cooperation between national postal services.
