Description

Jean-Gaspard de Cicignon was born in 1622 in Oberwampach, in the north of Luxembourg. In 1657, he joined the Danish army as an officer and in the early 1660s became commander of the fortress of Bergenhus in Norway. After the Norwegian town of Trondheim was ravaged by fire in April 1681, Jean-Gaspard de Cicignon drew up a far-sighted reconstruction plan. He was one of the few Luxembourg noblemen to gain international recognition. He died in 1696 in Fredrikstad, Norway.
